The art of letter writing
The Art of Letter Writing reutilizes Mies van der Rhoe’s Federal Plaza building with the addition of a custom letter writing service to the existing United States Postal Service that currently occupies the building. With the current financial failing of the USPS, this narrative driven project portrays a custom service as the future financial asset of the USPS and the building is transformed to accommodate this future program. Circulation between public and private audiences drives the program layout and partitions inspired by Lily Reich’s “Velvet and Silk Cafe”, create a fluidity in the partitioning of space.
