This series of images explores the surreal nature of living in a suburbia populated with the McCormick House as the prototype or “catalog house”. It is said that the McCormick House was meant to be a model easily replicated for the modern nuclear family and used to populate neighborhoods. As in any other suburbia, owners have tried to individualize their homes with color but this only furthers the eerie atmosphere which they inhabit. Drawing on inspiration from Tim Burton’s neighborhood in his film Edward Scissorhands, these images suggest the alien look of a Miesian suburbia and the attempt to individualize Miesian structures with common practices such as paint color.
